Author Guidelines

How to prepare articles

There is no strict word limit. However, the following word limits may be followed:

  • Abstract: All articles must have a structured abstract (see the checklist). The abstract should be about 250 words for an Original Article and around 100 words for other articles.
  • Main body of text: should generally be structured into Introduction, Objectives, Methodology, Results and Discussion. More details are given in the checklist.
  • Systematic reviews should conform to the PRISMA checklist: PRISMA 2020 checklist.
  • References: should be given at the end of the article in Vancouver style. Within the text, they should be quoted within square brackets.
  • Tables and figures: Place tables and figures at the end of the manuscript, after the references, numbered with Arabic numerals (Table 1, Figure 1), and cite each one in the text.

How to submit

  1. Download the Submission Checklist.
  2. Prepare your article as per the checklist, and tick every item before you submit.
  3. Register yourself online as an author and submit your article online. If you need help registering, send an email to ijhsir.chd@gmail.com.
  4. We will help with the online submission.
  5. Pay the article processing fee after acceptance: Rs 1,500 (India) or USD 50 (international). The fee does not affect editorial decisions and can be waived on request with justification. AHSAS members also pay this fee.

After you submit

  1. Peer review. The article will be peer reviewed and the reviewers’ comments will be sent to you. Modify the article as per the comments and submit it again. Remember, you should NOT submit it as a new article; upload the revised article under the revision section.
  2. Copyediting. You will be sent a copyedited version. Accept the changes under track changes mode and submit the copyedited version. You can add a discussion and upload your copyedited file in the discussion section of the copyediting stage.
  3. Galley proof. You will be sent the galley proof. Similarly, accept the changes; minor corrections are permitted. Upload the galley proof under the discussion tab of the production section.
  4. Article processing fee. After your article is accepted, you will be asked to pay the fee (Rs 1,500 India; USD 50 international). To request a waiver, write to ijhsir.chd@gmail.com with your justification. The fee does not affect editorial decisions.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements. The corresponding author confirms each item on behalf of all authors.

  • All co-authors have seen and approved the manuscript and agree to its submission.
  • The work is original and is not under consideration elsewhere (or an explanation has been given in Comments to the Editor).
  • Ethics approval and informed consent have been obtained where applicable, and this is stated in the manuscript.
  • All conflicts of interest and sources of funding have been declared.
  • I confirm, on behalf of all authors, that authors retain copyright and agree to publish this work under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0), granting the journal the right of first publication.
  • I have checked the manuscript for plagiarism and the work follows the ICMJE criteria for authorship.
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; and employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).
  • Tables and figures are placed at the end of the manuscript, after the references, numbered with Arabic numerals (Table 1, Figure 1), and each one is cited in the text.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Protocol

Researchers can submit the research protocols, for which they intend to do the research in future. It should have all the sections relevant to the research. Ethical justification is mandatory. If protocol has ethics clearance then same should be clearly mentioned. If researchers have submitted the protocol for ethics clearance, same should also be mentioned. Researchers should also specify the potential roles of different contributors in execution of the protocol. The tentative time period of execution should also be stated. Any conflicts of interest should also be specified.

Authors retain copyright of their articles. By submitting, authors grant the journal the right of first publication and agree that the article is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0), https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/. Anyone may share and adapt the work, including for commercial purposes, provided the original authors and the journal are credited and any changes are indicated. No separate copyright form is required; the corresponding author confirms this agreement on behalf of all authors in the submission checklist.

Privacy Statement

IJHSIR is published by the Association for Health Systems Analysis and Strengthening (AHSAS), Chandigarh, India. We handle personal data in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

What we collect. Names, email addresses, affiliations and ORCID iDs of authors, reviewers, editors and readers who register; manuscripts and files you upload; reviewer comments; and server logs (such as IP address and browser details).

Why. We use this data only to run the editorial process, publish accepted articles, and send notifications about your submissions, reviews and journal issues. We do not sell or share it for any other purpose.

Publication. Author names and affiliations are published with articles and are public. Reviewer identities are not published.

Processors. The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services in Mumbai, India. Emails are sent through Amazon SES and Brevo. These services process data only on our behalf.

Retention. Account and editorial records are kept while your account is active and for 5 years after your last activity, unless you ask for earlier deletion. Published author names and affiliations stay with the article permanently, as part of the scholarly record. Server logs are kept for up to 90 days.

Your rights. You may ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, or withdraw consent. Deletion does not apply to published articles, which form part of the scholarly record, although we will correct errors in them.
